Why go National?

A National Sorority like Alpha Sigma Tau, is defined as National because of its many other chapters all over the globe.

*The biggest benefit of being a National organization is the nationwide network of alumni who are eager to assist you during your college years and beyond. You may attend a college in the South and find that you have sorority sisters on both the east and west coasts. When you are looking for jobs and need to make professional connections, these alumni networks can be invaluable.

*Held to a higher standard of policies

New member education course which includes weekly exams and a final that are sent directly to our national headquarters in order to be considered a member

*Active and up to date programs on risk management.

*Much larger in size

*Backed up by a National Organization with insurance coverage

*Prominent People (past presidents,CEO's) who have come from the national organization

*Nationally recognized not-for-profit organization means being able to participate in activities such as large fundraisers and philanthrophy.

*Obtains assistance from our nationals headquarters. They offer programs that send a national representative to see how we are currently doing and how we can improve.

"I graduated almost 30 years ago and live 375 miles away. I was shopping at Target one Saturday and was wearing my letters. I rounded the aisle and saw three young women with their freshly earned AST letters from Johnson and Wales University. We said hello, hugged, and chatted about our chapters. In that brief few moments, I reaffirmed my feeling that choosing a national organization not only gives you the life-long strength of your chapter sisters- you also have the connections and network of a nationwide web of strong, dedicated women leaders available to you."

"27 years after graduating from Bloomsburg, I was heading into the mall near my house. In the parking lot, I saw a car with a B.U. bumper sticker and an AST decal. It made me happy. I took a picture and put it on facebook. I also left a note on the car saying that I was an AST sister from the Beta Nu chapter - from years ago... It turns out the car belonged to an active sister, and she contacted Morgan Buehner Decoteau - the chapter advisor, to tell her about the note she received. Morgan told me that Kelly Nelson was glad to hear from me. It was great to be reminded of my Bloom years and the fun I had (and continue to have) with my sisters. Oh - and I found out that Kelly worked at Lenscrafters. I went back to mall the following week and she gave me a great deal on a pair of glasses:) National Sisterhood has many advantages!"

"Dropping my son at a birthday sleepover this year; I was talking to the birthday boy's Mom and found out she was AST from Shippensburg. We have become great friends and always tell everyone not to mess with us; that we are bonded for life and will always have each others' back. Sadly, she is a few years younger, so she did not remember the AST Bloom trip to AST Ship for some sort of regional workshop with about 6-8 other Penna chapters. Beta Nu got to stay at the AST Ship house and several of us got into some shennanigans. There may be a song written about us from that weekend, because we certainly rocked their world and showed them how to have a good time BU/AST style"
